How Does CrowdSpring Work
Ever thought of what it would feel like to use crowdsourcing marketplaces for projects? Many people have done this and confirmed its wonderful benefits and I recently tested these benefits few weeks ago. I used CrowdSpring, which is among the most respected crowdsourcing site available today with remarkable but skilled talents. CrowdSpring is a crowd sourcing site that grants clients or customers access to hundreds of talents at the same time in any niche of their choice. They have skilled designers who can perfect, to your test, any designing project including logo, website and many others. You can also find writers and talents in various other fields. I have personally used a number of the top rated freelance sites like Elance, Guru, Freelancer, GetACoder, and the others and found that often, clients are still limited to reviewing and working with a single designer/worker. After hearing about Crowd sourcing for so long, I decided to give it a try and thanks to CrowdSpring, I will never regret that decision.
With over 70,000 designers and writers, CrowdSpring is really the world’s best creative team as they do describe themselves. Depending on the type of project you need done, they have a minimum amount you can set as your budget. For instance, for a designing project, price starts at $200 including a $39 standard fee and a 15% commission which they charge for hosting the project. As a first time user, I signed up on their system, named my project, and wrote a little stuff about myself, a brief introduction on my project and some direction to the designers. Don’t mind how I sound, I love writing and I banged on my keyboard a couple of times to fill those boxes up: but if you hate writing or wish that the submission process would have been a bit faster, please note that there is no word limit to what you can write; a line or two or perhaps a statement is enough. Hmmm, a relief I guess! Once the project is submitted and goes live, you will start getting tons of design submissions for review. From experience, I found that this is the hardest part as even with the most critic review criteria, you will still have a dozen or more designs at the end without knowing which to finally choose. But this is a decision you have got to make and it must be made owing to what is best for your business.
Is CrowdSpring Worth The Money?
At a $39 standard fee and 15% commission plus the minimum budget set for different projects on CrowdSpring, it is really a nice question to ask whether the final product or entire system is worth the money. From my experience, I’d say yes, it does. Instead of managing the results of a one-man freelancer, I think that we all would appreciate being allowed to shuffle through different results from hundreds of talents as they all struggle to over-deliver. However, while this may not be a perfect place if you are in an urgent need for a project to be completed with a fat wallet to make it happen, it does provide people, without some bottle-necked time constraints, the opportunity to smile at a look on their final project instead of the normal ‘Oops!’ that seem unavoidable with core contractor-based freelance sites.
CrowdSpring’s Primary Competitor – 99Designs
Heard of 99Designs before? It is also an online design contest marketplaces that relies on the concept of crowd sourcing to bring a pool of talented designers together for prospective clients. Are you a small or medium sized business or just an individual looking for the best quality design project, 99Designs promises to get you satisfied with a least of 99 creative design submissions from over 80,000 contesting designers. Like some other top crowd sourcing marketplaces like CrowdSpring, customers have reported having got design submission in hundreds from 99designs for review. Project categories include logos, web design, banner ads, and many others.
How Does CrowdSpring Compare To 99Designs
These are two of the most rated crowd sourcing marketplaces I have personally tested. Both have a pool of talents in tens of thousands from across the globe thereby allowing businesses and individuals access to utilize unlimited skills to the benefit of their businesses. As a common factor between these two marketplaces, they both require a $39 standard fee plus a minimum set prize depending on the type of project. However, while buyers are required to pay 15% of their prize on CrowdSpring, 99 Designs seems cheaper with a request for 10% of the prize offered. Also, on 99Designs, you can run a regular contest, guaranteed contest or even a blind contest where the design submissions will not be visible to the public except you.
Both marketplaces are exceptional and customers praise them for quality despite that they take a bit of time and the fact that they may seem a bit pricy for low-budget buyers. However, from the customer feedbacks I read, it seemed that some previous customers to 99Designs had to sort through several unprofessional designs before finding a match to something that can actually fit. However, this is not unexpected owing to the fact that a crowd sourcing marketplace is a place where talents with varying expertise from around the globe come to compete against one another. Hence having a few low-quality design submissions among multiple of other contesting designs is quite expected.
Pros
I like Crowdsourcing for their quality and the level of expertise of the designers in their team. With the flow of submissions as designers try to beat one another, you may even wish you can use two of the same design as the quality and usability feature of some of the deigns are completely amazing that it is a pain to forgo one for the other. That said, I also love their easy contest setup procedure. As a first time user, I really expected some hitches or perhaps to spend several minutes trying to navigate to the right places but I was disappointed. The site was self explanatory which shows that both the system and the team are there for one thing; to satisfy customers. The quality of design I got and the control I was given over the perfection of my design was worth every penny. I suppose it will cost more to get that kind of control on a core freelance site, if at all it is possible.
Cons
While I wouldn’t complain of the price owing to the quality of design I got and for the fact that my needs were made the focus of every action that revolves around my contest, I really think that in order to compete with some other cheap crowd sourcing marketplaces and to help attract even more low-budget buyers, CrowdSpring should at least review their pricing system. A good example for review would be the 15% commission on the prize of contest which 99Designs charges 10% for.
