Currently GoDaddy, based in Scottsdale, Arizona, is by far the largest as it hosts more than 50 million domains, has close to 10 million customers all over the world and employes over 4,000 people in 8 establishments in the United States, the Netherlands and Singapore. Since 30% of the whole internet traffic passes through Godaddy servers it makes it even biggest than its 8 closest competitors together. Godaddy started out in 1997 as Jomax Technologies by Bob Parsons and reached the top of the world by offering the best products in low prices and with a great customer tech support. In GoDaddy they do not outsource anything but they have an unstoppable 24/7/365 customer care instead. GoDaddy provides a broad range of services not just domain registration, renewals and transfers – which take place every second – but also business solutions, e-commerce, SEO, SSL certificates and more.

What Does GoDaddy Offer

GoDaddy is a domain registrar company that does way more than just give your site its URL. It offers all kinds of other services including e-commerce applications and proprietary software tools. It’s basically your one-stop shop for creating and managing your Internet presence. The company is based in Scottsdale, Arizona, but they have offices all over the world to serve their 10 million customers. Since it offers something a little more than other hosting companies, I thought I’d write this review.

GoDaddy Features And Benefits – What Makes It Unique

I’m pretty sure that GoDaddy’s popularity all over the world is because of how easy it is to get set up with them. You can use its WebSite Tonight site builder even if you have zero tech skills whatsoever. Just pick the templates you want and click where it tells you to. This site builder offers all kinds of extra tools if you want to have an online photo album or special design features.

As I said in the intro, GoDaddy’s e-commerce tools are outstanding. For example, they offer a Quick Shopping Cart feature that makes your site completely ready to start selling products. You just have to customize the catalog, which is really easy to do, and you can either set up an online store or attach Quick Shopping Cart to one you’ve already got going.

If you’re into Internet marketing, its service also includes all you need for that. Unfortunately, the marketing and SEO tools aren’t built in to the basic package. You have to order them separately. Still, the premium plan is only $2.77 per year and it includes lots of helpful tools. Stats that let you monitor your websites’ traffic and data do come with the basic package, however. This is also nice for marketing purposes.

Pricing is another area where GoDaddy can’t be beat. Ever since the company started in 1997, it has been known for offering the best deal going. You can register domains for as much as 70% less with GoDaddy than with other registrars. And that’s not to mention all the other extras you get along with it like the site builder, email accounts, and more.

I found GoDaddy’s support to be excellent. There are all kinds of ways you can get support – from their forums to FAQ sections – and if you actually have to contact a customer service rep, it’s not hard at all to do by either phone or email. Even though it’s the world’s biggest hosting company, GoDaddy’s reps still respond quickly to problems.

It also offers built-in security for your website using Secure Sockets Layer Certificates (better known as SSLs), that encrypt data so that hackers and other nasty types can’t get ahold of it. You can have social security and credit card numbers on the site without worrying about them getting ripped off. It puts the SSL padlock icon on the lower part of your site so that visitors know their information is protected.

When you want to sell domains, you can do so through GoDaddy’s Wild West Domains. You open an account there and can then sell all kinds of stuff – domain names, email accounts, e-commerce tools and other products.

One of my favorite things about GoDaddy is the personalized email accounts they give you. Each account has your domain name after it and no funny numbers or letters. This means that your email is much easier for other people (your customers) to remember, and that’s a big bonus.

How Does GoDaddy Compare?

One of GoDaddy’s main competitors is NetFirms. Both offer a similar service at almost the same price. NetFirms offers more bandwidth for all of its packages and its Advantage and Business plan (which are about the same price as GoDaddy’s Deluxe and Unlimited Plans respectively) offers more disk space. But GoDaddy comes out ahead when it comes to scripts, applications, and tools that you can use for site building, marketing, and doing e-commerce.

Another competitor is UK2. UK2 is the obvious choice over GoDaddy if you just want one domain, a couple of email accounts, one site and some decent disk space. Their premium plan is just $3 a month. But if you need more than that, it gets a bit complicated. Like GoDaddy, UK2 offers a bunch of different plans that come with multi-domain hosting, ecommerce, and reseller plans, but GoDaddy still offers more. UK2 doesn’t have their site analytics, SEO tools, cloud hosting and domain parking.

Disadvantages of GoDaddy

 If you’re setting up a couple of personal sites or sites for your small business, you get plenty of bandwidth with GoDaddy’s Economy Plan. But this entry level plan isn’t good if you expect lots of traffic and growth. The only trouble is that they don’t let you buy just a month – you have to get three months in advance. Your site can easily outgrow the plan in three months, so they kind of sucker you into buying a bigger plan than you need at the get-go. It would be nice if they were more flexible.

Another downside is that they don’t have a toll-free number. You have to call their Arizona office if you want to talk to somebody, and those support phone calls can get long.

 GoDaddy’s Pricing

 The Economy Plan, which is the most basic, is $4.99 a month. You can get the Deluxe Plan for $7.99 per month and the Unlimited Plan is $14.99 a month. The Unlimited Plan gives you as much disk space and bandwidth as you want as well as the free SSL certificate.

 Reading reviews of GoDaddy’s service, it sounds like the live human tech support is a bit hit or miss. When you get a good agent, they solve your problems quickly; if you’re unlucky and you don’t get a good one, it may be tough to get your problems solved. Still, GoDaddy’s a huge company, so I’m sure they do their best to keep up with customer demands.

 What lots of the reviews said about this service is that you get an amazing amount of value for the price. Although there are other cheap web hosting services, you’re not going to find so many extra tools thrown in at that price.
